Thomas M. Schultz started VIP, Veterans Imaging Products, Inc. in 1996.
The desire to start VIP began from Tom's association with the government and his wanting to 'give something back'. Tom was in the central highlands of the Republic of Vietnam when med evacuated to the U.S. Military hospital in Japan. He spent over four months in Japan then was reassigned to the Saigon area for another tour. He also spent time in VA Medical facilities upon release from the U.S. Army.
As a service disabled Vietnam veteran, Tom felt akin to the veterans' hospitals. With an extensive background in operations, procurement, materials management, sales and marketing for companies such as Beatrice Foods, Turtle Wax and Amway Corporate Headquarters Tom was able to serve government customers with high quality products and service.
By 1995, Tom already had several years' experience in the office supply business and government sales. He believed in aggressive recycling programs and found remanufactured toner cartridges to be an ideal match. Tom began offering veterans' hospitals environmentally friendly remanufactured cartridges at a lower cost and higher quality. As the company grew VIP began selling to other government agencies as well. VIP applied for and was awarded several GSA contracts becoming widely known in the industry as a source of "empty cartridges" necessary in the remanufacturing process.Over the years VIP has sourced solid vendors for its high quality products, and continually increased its product lines. VIP now offers nearly any item that is currently used to print on paper, as well as other supplies and equipment. VIP has distribution facilities in Chicago, IL, San Francisco, CA and Middletown, CT to enhance customer service and ensure timely delivery. VIP offers the widest selection of OEM, Compatible and remanufactured supplies currently available on the GSA contract.
VIP's goal is to bring future products to the market in a timely manner, and to continue to offer the most cost effective printing solutions available.
In January of 2005 Tom was recognized and honored as a Founding Sponsor of the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial Foundation. The mission of the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation is to raise the funds necessary to design and construct the Memorial. It was established in 1998 through the combined efforts of philanthropist Lois Pope, Foundation chairman; Mr. Arthur Wilson, National Adjutant of the Disabled American Veterans and Foundation President; and the late Jesse Brown, former Secretary of Veteran Affairs and the Foundation's first executive director.
The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to raise the funds necessary to build the Memorial. The Foundation subscribes to the Donor Bill of Rights, and is a registered charitable organization in all states and jurisdictions that require it.
The U.S. Congress approved this national memorial to be built in Washington D.C. with the passage of Public Law 106-348. Sponsors of the Act included Senators John McCain (Arizona) and Max Cleland (Georgia), and Representatives Sam Johnson (Texas) and Jack Murtha (Pennsylvania).
